Google Marketing Live 2026: What Google’s AI Future Means for SEO & Google Ads

In May, I had the opportunity to attend Google Marketing Live, Google’s annual event showcasing the latest developments in search, advertising, artificial intelligence, and digital marketing technology. As the lead Digital Marketing Specialist at Morton Vardeman & Carlson, I’m always looking for ways to stay ahead of industry changes so we can better serve our clients and help them stay competitive online.

This year’s event focused heavily on the continued integration of AI into Google Search, Google Ads, and Google’s broader marketing ecosystem. While many businesses have questions about how AI will impact their online visibility, one message was clear to me throughout the event:

The fundamentals of SEO and digital marketing are not disappearing. Instead, they are becoming more important than ever.

Is SEO Dead? Google Says No.

One of the most common questions I get asked by clients in 2026 is, “Is SEO dead?”

According to Google, the answer is a definitive no.

In fact, many of the recommendations Google provides for appearing in AI-powered search experiences are the same best practices that SEO professionals have been following for years.

During the event, Google emphasized the importance of creating content that demonstrates:

  • Real expertise and experience
  • Unique perspectives and insights
  • Authentic customer reviews and testimonials
  • Original images and videos
  • First-hand experiences with products or services
  • Helpful answers that solve user problems

As AI Search becomes more capable of handling complex questions, Google’s systems need reliable sources to pull information from. Businesses that consistently publish helpful, trustworthy, and experience-driven content are more likely to be featured in both traditional search engine results and AI-generated ones.

AI Search and SEO Work Together

A major takeaway from Google Marketing Live was that AI Search and SEO are not competing. Rather, they are becoming continuously interconnected.

Google’s AI systems (in addition to others) rely on high-quality website content to generate answers. If your website lacks detailed information, expertise, or helpful resources, AI has less reason to reference or recommend your business to users.

At MVC, we often discuss both SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization). Google’s latest announcements reinforce the idea that businesses should focus on creating content that directly answers customer questions while demonstrating expertise and authority.

Google’s Vision: AI Makes Search Even Better

Google’s speakers described AI as one of the most significant advancements in the history of Search. Rather than replacing search engines, AI is helping users solve more complicated and detailed problems than ever before.

For businesses, this means content needs to go beyond simple keyword targeting. Your website should answer the questions customers are actually asking while providing valuable information that helps to support their decision-making process.

The Future of Google Ads: Becoming an Answer

Google really emphasized a simple concept during the event: The best ads are always solutions.

Successful Google Search Ads will increasingly focus on explaining why a business is the best solution to a searcher’s problem.
Rather than simply promoting products or services, ads should:

  • Address customer pain points
  • Provide clear solutions
  • Highlight unique advantages
  • Build trust quickly
  • Guide users toward action

As AI becomes more integrated into Google Ads, businesses that have strong messaging, clear landing pages, and useful website content will have a significant advantage.

Google Gemini and Search Are Becoming More Connected

One of the most exciting announcements from Google Marketing Live was the growing connection between Google Search and Google Gemini.

Google is creating experiences where users can move seamlessly between traditional search results and AI-powered conversations. This creates new opportunities for businesses to connect with potential customers earlier in the buying journey.

As users interact with AI-powered search experiences, Google’s systems will rely heavily on website content to provide accurate answers and recommendations. This reinforces the idea that your website content is becoming the foundation for both SEO and AI visibility.

AI-Powered Lead Generation Is Coming

One of the most exciting developments from Google Marketing Live was Google’s vision for AI-powered lead generation.

Future advertising experiences will allow users to:

  • Ask questions directly within an ad experience
  • Receive answers generated from a business’s website content
  • Submit lead forms directly through AI conversations
  • Complete actions more quickly with pre-filled information

For businesses, this means websites must be prepared to support AI-driven interactions. Strong landing pages, service information, and detailed content will become even more important as AI leverages information to interact with potential customers.

Demand Gen Continues to Expand

Google also announced continued growth for Demand Gen campaigns. Demand Gen uses signals from Google Search, YouTube, Maps, and other Google properties to identify potential customers before they actively begin searching for a business.

A notable expansion announced at the event is the integration of Demand Gen advertising into Google Maps. This creates additional opportunities for businesses to build awareness, generate interest, and influence purchasing decisions faster.

AI Is Changing Campaign Management

Google continues to invest heavily in AI-powered campaign management tools.

New features will help advertisers:

  • Launch campaigns faster
  • Identify optimization opportunities
  • Receive strategic recommendations
  • Automate repetitive tasks
  • Store and reference previous conversations and recommendations

Google’s evolving AI advisors are designed to help marketers spend less time managing routine tasks and more time focusing on strategy. While human oversight will continue to be important, these tools have the potential to improve efficiency and provide valuable insights.

Creating Ads Is Becoming Easier

Google is bringing its most advanced AI models directly into Google Ads through Asset Studio, making it easier for advertisers to generate:

  • Ad copy
  • Images
  • Creative variations
  • Video assets
  • Campaign-specific content

This allows marketers to produce a larger variety of creative assets without significantly increasing production time. However, while AI can accelerate creative development, strategy still matters. Businesses need strong branding, clear messaging, and a deep understanding of their audience to maximize the effectiveness of AI-generated assets.

So, What’s Most Important?

After attending Google Marketing Live 2026, my biggest takeaway is that AI isn’t replacing digital marketing fundamentals. Instead, it makes them even more important.

Strong SEO, helpful content, optimized landing pages, compelling ad copy, and a positive user experience remain at the core of digital success. The businesses that will benefit most from AI-powered search and advertising are the ones that are already investing in high-quality content and customer-focused marketing strategies.

As Google and other platforms integrate AI into the search experience, MVC continues to adapt our strategies to help our clients stay visible, competitive, and prepared for what’s next. Content needs to go beyond simple keyword targeting. Your website should answer the questions customers are actually asking while providing valuable information that helps to support their decision-making process.
